1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using HanziFeed ("the App"), including the website at hanzifeed.com ("the Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App or Website.

2. Description of Service

HanziFeed is a Chinese character learning application that provides character exploration, animated stroke order, spaced repetition review, audio pronunciation, and related educational features. The App is available on iOS and Android devices. The Website serves as a marketing and informational resource.

3. Accounts

Account creation is optional. You may use the App without creating an account, with all data stored locally on your device. If you choose to create an account via email/password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.

You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

HanziFeed offers a free tier and an optional paid subscription ("HanziFeed Pro"). Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, depending on your platform.

• Billing: Subscriptions are charged at the beginning of each billing period (monthly or yearly). Lifetime purchases are a one-time payment.
• Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
• Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds: Refunds are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store in accordance with their respective refund policies.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the App or its underlying technology
• Use automated scripts or bots to access the App or scrape its content
• Redistribute, sublicense, or resell the App, its content, or any data obtained through the App
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers, systems, or other users' accounts
• Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws

6. Intellectual Property

All content in the App — including but not limited to character data, audio files, stroke animations, user interface design, and software code — is owned by HanziFeed or used under license. Dictionary data is derived from CC-CEDICT (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0) and Unicode Unihan. HSK classifications reference the 2026 HSK 3.0 Exam Syllabus published by CLEC.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the App's content without prior written consent, except as permitted by the applicable open-source licenses.

7. User Content

You may create custom character packs and save personal learning data within the App. You retain ownership of any content you create. By using the cloud sync feature, you grant us a limited license to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the sync service.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App and Website are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Educational content is provided for informational purposes and should not be relied upon as the sole source for language certification preparation.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, HanziFeed and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the App or Website.

Our total liability for any claims relating to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for your subscription in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $50 USD, whichever is greater.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion. You may terminate your use of the App at any time by deleting your account and uninstalling the App.

Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections 6, 8, 9, and 11 survive termination.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the use of the App shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of competent jurisdiction.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
